Our Team

John retired from the Alexandria City Public Schools in 2009 after a distinguished career as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal at the elementary, middle and high school levels, and assistant superintendent. John's career, which spanned forty years, was highlighted by his twenty-two year tenure as principal of T. C. Williams High School of Remember the Titans movie fame. John was principal during the founding of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, which has assisted innumerable students with funding for their post-secondary education.

After retirement, John continued his work in Alexandria serving as president/chief executive officer of ACT for Alexandria, Alexandria's community foundation, retiring in 2017. He currently works as an educational consultant while serving on the boards of The Campagna Center and Northern Virginia Community College.

John received his BA degree in history from North Carolina Wesleyan College and his Master's in educational administration from Virginia Tech.

Kurt has extensive experience in the field of education through over 32 years of educational service. He has 25 years of experience in public education as a teacher, principal, and executive director. He also has experience with non-profits and museums as the Senior Director of Education and Partnerships with a large-scale non-profit hands-on STEM Center Museum (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio. In addition, he has served as a higher education professor for master degree education leadership students at Ohio Dominican University and general education students at Columbus State Community College.

He has extensive knowledge of and connections to the community, which has proven valuable with his work over the past 7 years. He has a BA in Elementary Education from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and a Master's in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University. He currently holds a post-graduate professional license in both Elementary Education PreK–6 and a post-graduate professional education license in Administration and Supervision PreK–12 in Virginia. He is a certified Google Sheet creator and editor.
